Scaling

One of the initial steps before starting any dental treatment is a dental cleaning or scaling. Cleaning your teeth will remove dental plaque and calculus and stains from coffee or cigarette smoking. During this visit, we will go over the importance of brushing and flossing and give you the recommendations on brushing techniques that suite your teeth. Cleaning your teeth will help you feel refreshed, motivate you for regular brushing and prepare your teeth for any future dental work.

Deep Cleaning

If you have been told you have periodontal (gum) disease, you’re not alone. Many adults currently have some form of the disease. Periodontal diseases range from simple gum inflammation to serious diseases that result in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. In the worst cases, teeth are lost.

Whether your gum disease is stopped, slowed, or gets worse depends a great deal on how well you care for your teeth and gums every day, from this point forward.

Our periodontist, Dr AKOURY removes the plaque through a deep-cleaning method called scaling and root planing.  Scaling means scraping off the tartar from above and below the gum line.  Root planing gets rid of rough spots on the tooth root where the germs gather, and helps remove bacteria that contribute to the disease.

Gum Grafting

Exposed tooth roots are the result of gum recession. Gum graft surgery will repair the defect and help to prevent additional recession and bone loss.

Gum grafts can be used to cover roots or develop gum tissue where absent due to excessive gingival recession. During gum graft surgery, our periodontist, Dr Akoury takes gum tissue from your palate or another donor source to cover the exposed root. This can be done for one tooth or several teeth to even your gum line and reduce sensitivity. It will reduce tooth sensitivity and improve esthetics of your smile. Whether you have a gum graft to improve function or esthetics, you often receive the benefits of both: a beautiful new smile and improved periodontal health – your keys to smiling, eating and speaking with comfort and confidence.
